St. Etheldreda's Church

Established in 1400’s as a small chapel for the farming community. Led by Reverend George Pembleton

Was named as such as St. Etheldreda’s symbolic for education, hard work and devotion.

in 1800’s church expanded to accommodate growing population and the school was built nearby to provide basic education for farmer’s children in the mid 1800’s

Local legend has it that Reverend George Pembleton haunts the graveyard and ensure’s the churches safety.

During the wars the church was one of the only building to not be hit by bombs, strengthening the people of HoB’s faith and hope.

Church today still offers services, offers tours of the building and grounds. They are “warm spaces” for those who need them and they will help anyone in need.

The school still operates under the churches guidance (despite not being a “religious school”), the children visit the church each term to learn more about HoB history and the local vicar visits the school once a month to lead the daily assembly.
